The Team

The Brain Health Education Institute is extremely fortunate to be able to call on the assistance of our advisory board which brings together a team of people from across the world who have a passion for proactive mental and emotional health.

Dr Gerry Meijer - Patron - OAM CStJ JP(Qual)

The addendum to Gerry’s family and work journeys is as a consummate volunteer. After commencing a working life as a primary school teacher, he realised an aspiration to become a rural family physician. Subsequently, he became an active member of the Australian Boy Scouts Association, Royal Life Saving Society, Australian Red Cross, St John Ambulance and Rotary membership.

His BA (CQU) majored in community studies (sociology) embracing an informed, holistic view of people in society.  Professional development diverted from rural practice to anaesthesia training, culminating in his present practice. Both these career ‘changes’ were pivotal to his career in Hervey Bay.

The interest in volunteering culminated in completing a Masters of Professional Studies (USQ). The project investigated the longevity of volunteering. Ongoing research now is focused on volunteer resilience development.

Gerry has completed 14yrs SES service notably as a peer supporter, 28yrs St John Ambulance, 46yrs as a Rotarian (Past District Governor), 40yrs Australian Red Cross, both as a member and in instructor roles.  He is no stranger to the worlds of training, learning, meetings, and change
